The Arab search market is ripe for serious growth over the next several years, with a large sophisticated online audience and not much in the way of Arab language specific search available until now. There was a search engine launch expected by the end of this year (http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7003335042) to be called Sawafi. It looks like Sawafi was beaten to market by Araby with this release. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Google Loses Copyright Fight http://msnbc.msn.com/id/14895882/ Essentials: Google, also in court to fight against copyright complaints by Agence France Presse, lost a key battle today in their fight to provide news search. The argument from Google that the ruling attacks the fundamental way in which Google does business is from an American legal perspective; that an entity should not be blocked from being able to conduct business. The note that there is implication Google may not be allowed to crawl without permission first must have been drawn by the author of the article because that is exactly true. Ignoring an exclusion protocol and crawling away can constitute trespassing! ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Google Forms Net PAC http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-6116980.html Essentials: After a rocky start, that included Senator McCain commenting on Sergey Brin's move to influence Washington, Google has now formerly formed Net PAC. This allows them to donate and actually influence members of the government. Key issues for Google will be Net Neutrality and staving off further harsh criticisms about their acquiescence to the Chinese government. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Google Hits 2006 High Mark http://www.netb2b.com/article.cms?articleId=29263 Essentials: The latest search market share numbers from Hitwise show Google has hit a high point so far during 2006. The numbers are 60.29% Google, 22.58% Yahoo!, 11.56% MSN and 3.63% Ask. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Stay Tuned.
