Update http://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000327.html Essentials: Yahoo! rolled out an update last week. Check out your search listings in Yahoo! to look for any changes. Early feedback indicates that some spam has been removed, and most are reporting generally positive results from the update. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> SES Miami Coverage Day one: http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060710-174435 Day two: http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060711-161119 Essentials: In traditional fashion, Barry was blogging the conference from the audience. His coverage appears on Search Engine Watch where Barry is chief news correspondent, and the Search Engine Roundtable (SERoundatble.com), Barry's own site. Congratulations are due Nacho for his effort that we know spanned years in preparation for the event held in Miami. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Google Supports NOODP http://www.searchreturn.com/digest/refs077.shtml Essentials: The NOODP robots directive instructs search engines to avoid using titles (and especially descriptions) from ODP entries in search listings. When search engines use information from ODP, they assume because it is verified by a third party it is often higher quality text than that found in page code. This is problematic when the ODP listing is outdated and or no longer appropriate. Since Microsoft recently introduced support for NOODP, Google responds with a move that may be one of the first by Google that proves they pay attention to the fledgling Microsoft search engine, and will act quickly to compete where they believe they must. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Kinderstart Stopped, Must Restart http://searchviews.com/archives/2006/07/google_wins_sea.php Essentials: The Kinderstart case is interesting in that to our way of thinking, they have absolutely no recourse. The search industry has long operated upon the notion that search engine rankings are left purely to the discretion of search engines, and to demote or remove a site is their prerogative. Kinderstart has not successfully argued differently. The judge has all but thrown the case out. It would be interesting if in fact Kinderstart gets the chance to present a new class action, the result of which could be new disclaimer text displayed at search engines rankings do not constitute purely objective information. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Local Adds Whitepages People Search http://searchviews.com/archives/2006/07/local_teamup_se.php Essentials: Local.com now has added people search features powered by Whitepages which includes 92 million records of residential listings, and 10 million business listings. In other local news, Topix has partnered with ShopLocal to serve geo- targeted ads from store circulars alongside Topix local page resources. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Stay Tuned.
