The difference is, they are using IAB figures to calculate the spend on search advertising and determined it to be equal all other online media. This interesting development makes the forecast exceedingly high as compared with the previous estimate, and puts the total online ad spend squarely into double digit territory against (offline) traditional media for 2006 marketing dollars. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Robots Exclusion And Google http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060614-095917 Essentials: It is well-known that the Robots Exclusion Protocol is used in efforts to disallow robots from listing pages. Pages may still get listed however (just not crawled), especially in Google by URL. This is because the protocol isn't explicit about listings, it simply informs robots that crawling should not take place. The Meta 'noindex' container explicitly states do not index the page. If you see a listing with a snippet and or cache link, this directive was ignored. It appears that Google has pages cached and listed where the latest version has the 'noindex' container. This may be a freshness problem if an older version of the page lacks the 'noindex' container. If so, the Google anamoly will be similar in nature to webmasters complaining about Google listing URLs despite their appearance in the file protocol (robots.txt). The 'noindex' container is highly useful for content management when it can be inserted dynamically on categories of pages where the file protocol is not sufficient for the job. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> New Japanese Search Engine Effort http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060614-094019 Essentials: The Japanese government and major Japanese brands plan the development of a new search engine. With governmental participation, this move mirrors one by the French late last year. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Stay Tuned.
