==> Google US Blocked By Chinese Government

http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/2/hi/asia-pacific/5055170.stm

Essentials: In response to the fact that many Chinese search
users access Google US versus Google China, the Chinese
government blocked access to Google US once again. Although in
defense of censoring Google China, (which remains unblocked for
the time being), and the argument that entrance into the market
ultimately provides access to more information, Sergey Brin noted
that "perhaps now the principled approach makes more sense."
Google executives admitted the company compromised its principles
by censoring Google China.

==> Sergey Brin In Washington

http://www.searchreturn.com/digest/refs070.shtml

Essentials: Google executives feel strongly about Net Neutrality,
and Sergey Brin headed for Washington to argue their point to
lawmakers whose telecommunications reform bill is headed for a
vote in the U.S. House of representatives. "The only way you can
have a fast lane that is useful, is if there are slow lanes," he
told reporters after a visit with Arizona Senator John McCain.

The important issue here, is that while Google and other search
companies can pay a premium for unfettered access, search users
following listings will have trouble accessing sites hosted where
access is slow. This threatens the search advertising industry
to the degree that slow listings impedes user experience. It's no
wonder companies such as Google that built (and Google is driving)
the new text-based online advertising media are fighting for
legislation to protect Net Neutrality for consumers.

Sergey Brin, unfortunately, chose to wear unsuitable attire for
impressing Washington, though he admits Google is learning how
better to appeal to lawmakers. It's also *very* unfortunate that
regular citizens cannot seem to dress in any way they choose
without their dress potentially influencing the outcome when
arguing important issues with government officials present. Brin
noted that he was unsure how "McCain will come out on the issue."
