From: Ed Last We did this on a client's domain about 3 months ago - The results differed completely, between MSN / Yahoo! and Google. Google didn't pickup our change for about 6 weeks - MSN registered the new change, and the SERP positions were much better, all within 2 weeks - Yahoo's SERP positions only changed a little (for the better), and it took about 3 weeks to happen. When Google eventually caught up, the PR stayed, there was no change to the SERP positions. That's the only information I've got on internal 301 redirects. Obviously I don't know your situation, but, in my opinion, if you've got high-traffic positions 1 and 2, I wouldn't risk the 301 change. Hope that enlightens you, Ed ----------------------------------------------------------------- // -- CONTINUING DISCUSSION -- // ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Internal 301 From: Jeff Carr Hi Barry, We re-launched a site on April 12th that had an average PageRank value of 3 spread throughout. We set up internal 301s from the old pages to the new pages. When the new site launched, the home page kept its PR but none of the others saw an immediate transfer. It's now June 1st and none of the PageRank has been transferred over to the new pages. That said, Google Sitemaps shows a "yet to be assigned" PR distribution. I'll keep you posted. Cheers! Upgrades MyWeb http://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000310.html Also: http://searchenginewatch.com/searchday/article.php/3611306 Essentials: Several new features to Yahoo!'s MyWeb that appear to be significantly influenced by the strong direction the company took towards personalized search and social bookmarking, especially considering the purchase of Del.icio.us. Note the compelling commentary about the strength of tagging and search results within community bookmarks of saved pages, even with interests that are not as popular as CSS or XML. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Stay Tuned.
