==> TOPIC: Textbook SEO

"The most important bit from this conversation comes when Matt
discusses Google's use of the description tag that can increase
clicks."

From: Ed Last

Hi Disa,

I totally agree that once you have achieved high-rankings, the
descriptive text must be well-written and compelling to attract
more click-thrus - The one item I wanted to mention is the DMOZ.
One of our clients has a long-standing DMOZ entry, and the
problem is that Google displays his DMOZ text instead of text
from the website (web text, or META tags). This means that the
wording isn't 100% compelling for today's marketplace. Trying to
get the text changed is a joke.

Regards,
Ed

"Results with queries having enough qualifier terms can place
number one without any links to the page or site."

From: Mike Grehan

Like I said: people who sell textbook SEO and trusted feeds are
bound to say it works. Personally, I listen to customers more
than I do vendors. And please feel free to point me to a tail
term page which is ranking without any links at all. Yahoo!, Ask
or Google, you choose.

Cheers!

Mike.

==> New Google Features

http://www.searchreturn.com/digest/refs062.shtml

Essentials: Google had a press day yesterday during which several
new features for users were revealed by Marrissa Mayer. Google
Co-Op will introduce what appears to be their social tagging
effort, Google Gadgets are added to the Google Desktop, Google
Trends provides trending graphs for search queries (much like
BlogPulse), and due next week is Google Notebook which takes its
queue from Jeteye. Since none of these ideas are fresh or
original in any way, it may be no wonder that Google reminds
Bill Gates of the early Microsoft (embrace, extend, extinguish).
