The engine created by Ori Allon generates search results that contain snippets of text from matching pages, including additional snippets of related matches automatically. Other search engines (and some businesses) have expressed interest in Orion. The search results are intended to resolve the query in such a way that the searcher either gets enhanced references to pages with related matches, or snippet text in results is adequate and the need to click is reduced. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> SearchKing Regains PageRank http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=11004 Essentials: SearchKing, a high PageRank site that began selling links, even promoting the transfer of PageRank from its score, had its PageRank diminished by Google several years ago. The site owner, Bob Massa, filed a lawsuit against Google citing unfair business practices but lost the case. Since then, SearchKing has had no PageRank until recently. This indicates that quality sites which hold value for search users can regain PageRank even afeter a demotion. Patience may be required. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Google Local Ad Serving http://money.cnn.com/2006/04/06/technology/googsf_reut/index.htm Essentials: EarthLink and Google have won the San Francisco free WiFi contract. The new network will be ad supported by Google, providing Google the test bed for serving local ads in real-time. User location will be tracked to within the location of local businesses and the Google platform can ideally serve users ads by these businesses. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Chinese Agencies Complain http://directmag.com/news/4-10-06-Chinese-search-marketing/ Essentials: Major engines have regularly contact big advertisers directly without much concern of client/agency relationships. This practice started because major agencies were unaware of search marketing, and the only way search engines could promote their search advertising is with direct contact. There may be customary rules in China that make this particularly offensive to Chinese agencies, (although it is considered a bad practice all over the world). Only recently have search engines begun working closely with agencies, and agencies experience mixed results. Engines often cite a previous relationship, (which could include unanswered email), when an agency brings a complaint. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Click Fraud Woes http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-6059181.html Essentials: Click Fraud has been in headlines in a number of major newspapers, including a story in The Wall Street Journal. The search engines have done an excellent job minimizing the issue while advertisers are generally unprepared. This recent story has does a good job of highlighting the problem again, with quotes from several industry professionals and the search engines Google and Yahoo!. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> New MSN Search Services http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php/id;4484241;fp;2;fpid;1 Essentials: Rounding out its competitive search product line, Microsoft is preparing to launch shopping and an academic search service to its Windows Live front end. Launch dates for Microsoft are intended for later this year in time for the Christmas shopping season. There is ample reason to be skeptical. The company is well known to delay launches of Windows, including the latest version. Vista (originally named Longhorn) is delayed past the Christmas season upsetting computer manufacturers with a loss of important revenue opportunity. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> YPN Launches Blog http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060410-102414 Essentials: Yahoo! has been testing Yahoo! Publisher Network in beta form since last September. Now the service publishes a blog dedicated to the service. There have been some concerns about the relevancy matching of the ads, and Yahoo! has worked recently to improve relevancy. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Stay Tuned.
