==> TOPIC: SEARCH CONVERSION RATE HIGH

"Google has become evil's accomplice."
-Chris Smith

SearchReturn received messages regarding the Diane Rehm reference
from elated readers: "It was nice to see her mentioned in the
search world!" The show brought to light important things from
Chris Smith in advance of the hearing. A listener noted how
"Especially troubling [it] was that Google actually forwards
clicks to sites with content the Chinese government wants to
show. *Wow!* That is brainwashing at it's best."

The China search issue is not only difficult for Yahoo!, but
according to their latest blog entry: "figuring out how to deal
with China has been a difficult exercise for Google."

"The truth about the internet is that it's extremely hard to
block anything - extremely hard. You'll never get perfect
blocking."
-Bill Gates

Microsoft and Cisco too were publicly called into question. Both
these companies are heavily invested and complicit with the
Chinese government. The comment from Bill Gates above goes
directly to the point that Google could have stayed away but for
the desire to enter the Chinese market as these others have. The
financial rewards are very real, as they were for IBM during a
dark time in Europe.

The whole group was schooled by Holocaust survivor representative
Tom Landos, who shamed them at the hearing during a telling
exchange. Lantos, to Google: "I'm asking you a direct question
(about families)--I don't want your philosophy." Microsoft seized
an opportunity to look like the least evil of the evil doers,
saying they returned content to bloggers that were removed from
MSN Spaces, and noting that no one was jailed as a result of
their actions.

"These companies tell us they can change China. But China, has
already changed them."
-Tom Lantos
