Hello everyone,
Here's something you might find amusing. If you don't know
comedian Harry Shearer, he played the drummer in Spinal Tap,
writes for Simpsons and Saturday Night Live. His radio show (Le
Show) is broadcast on a NPR affiliate out of Santa Monica. He
regularly does impersonations. In his January 22nd show, he did a
skit called "Dick Cheney: Confidential," where he plays the Vice
President, (and all the other voices), in a satire slam on NSA
warrantless wiretapping. The skit has Dick Cheney confronting
Nancy Pelosi with her Yahoo! search activity. Be advised the
material contains semi-adult themes.

Stay tuned.

==> TOPIC: NOT FOR PROFIT SEO
"Can anyone tell me if the engines allow non-profit organizations
to participate in their PPC programs free of charge? If yes, can
you point me to an URL for more info?"
From: Stacy Williams
Debra,
Google does allow some non-profits to advertise for free through
their Google Grants program.

We've used this for our pro bono client the Atlanta Children's
Shelter and it worked great. Last I looked, Yahoo did not have a
similar program... but they should!
Are you listening, Yahoo?!?

==> TOPIC: NOT FOR PROFIT SEO
From: Lee Odden
Hi Debra,
When I was in discussion with the Carter Foundation to provide
SEO services, they mentioned that Google was providing them with
all the PPC budget they wanted.

==> NOT FOR PROFIT SEO
"Google was providing them with all the PPC budget they wanted."
From: Debra Mastaler
LOL - well I know this particular non-profit would "lust" after
an unlimited PPC budget as well! Thanks for the info.
Thanks to you as well Stacy. You and I have talked about the
Children's Shelter in the past, it's a good thing you and Matt
are doing!
Debra.

==> Google Flip Flops
http://blog.outer-court.com/files/google-censor-cache.jpg
Essentials: Someone will create a Google Flip Flops logo, or
Google will rollout something else not related to search. The
early Google made fun that they would focus on search and leave
things like chat software to others. They also had an open view
about the democracy of the Web. In light of Google China and
censorship, the text captured by this screenshot disappeared from
Google just like the chat comment. The more things change, the
more they stay the same. Danny's got a very revealing comparison
of a [tiananmen] Google China Image search.
http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060130-080248
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Danny has rightly added
that if Google is excluding results to appease the Chinese
government, they are doing it so they can make money in the
rapidly growing market. He calls it a form of paid exclusion; a
sort of reverse paid inclusion. The argument has a very serious
side. The federal government is interested in holding hearings to
determine whether a law should be enacted that regulates American
search companies who profit by complying with regimes sees as
problem human rights violators.

==> Search Conversion Rate High
http://www.searchreturn.com/digest/refs034.shtml
Essentials: The firm known for tracking finds that search engine
referrals convert at a rate twice that of other sources. This
comes fast on the heels of news about the head of marketing for
FTD that was replaced because of 2005 decisions to forego search
marketing, missing sales expectations as a result.
