One might think so, considering the fact that the term doesn't really exist in any language. The competitors are going to spam using gibberish text completely without concern for the part of the job that entails getting people to click a result and engage the site afterwards. In actuality though, some folks are doing interesting things with it. The top ad in the Google SERP today has a title that reads: You Have No Life There is also the ubiquitous eBay ad offering: Great Deals on v7ndotcom elursrebmem We are talking about a term that did not exist before the competition, so, already some interesting things are being found out. Forums and blogs have sprung from out of nowhere. Those aren't necessarily original ideas, but now these pages are going into Google Base, and appearing in results that way. Apparently Yahoo! is picking up more pages and providing faster results than Google though. A single new term isn't really a scientific experiment that proves Yahoo! is the faster indexer, but it tends to follow our experience with SearchReturn discovery last July. The eBay ad may help disclose a little about the backdoor arrangement between Google and eBay. These auto-inserted ads are likely published as soon as *any* new search term hits a preset threshold without regard to the query; the only criteria being search volume. We already know eBay publishes ads for [cadaver] and other things, but to get auto-inserted on a term that never previously existed at all reveals that it must be a threshold- based deal. Using a nonexistent term for the competition is similar to the age old idea of reverse engineering search engine algorithms. In the old days, we used terms that did not exist, and would A/B test on-page techniques to discover ranking factors. It must be where the idea came from. Now there is reportedly a $4,000 prize for the winner. As hackers gain notoriety for pulling off stunts, there is fame to be had here as well. Good luck! Stay tuned. -SearchReturn ----------------------------------------------------------------- // -- ESSENTIAL NEWS -- // ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Search Marketshare Relatively Unchanged http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060118-105244 Essentials: New numbers released by Nielsen NetRatings really don't add up to much of a change in current search marketshare. Among the top engines, Google is still out front when combined with AOL, Earthlink and Netscape. Yahoo! comes in second place, MSN third and then comes Ask when combined with MyWay and iWon. Google 52.4% Yahoo! 23.4% MSN 11.4% Ask 5.3% ----------------------------------------------------------------- ==> Yahoo! Shortens Ad Length http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3577666 Essentials: The move will help advertisers standardize ad copy across Yahoo! from other programs such as Google's. It also will help Yahoo! display additional ads in the same relative space through its network. The character count for descriptions has traditionally been 190, and the new length is 70. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Essential Headlines: http://www.searchreturn.com/newsworthy.shtml Archives: http://www.searchreturn.com/digest-archive.shtml Alternate formats: http://www.searchreturn.com/info-formats.shtml Manage Subscriptions: http://www.searchreturn.com/help/manage-subs.shtml Problems unsubscribing?
